When coming to the New World women were faced with many challenges, one in particular being work. Women could not work and do the same outside duties as man back then. Women were known for jobs like teachers, nurses, midwives, and for some working in other people houses. Also, women turned to entertaining men (keeping them company and some even had sexual relations just to pay for a room at the inn/ boarding house). Man would have faced finding work in a new town. Also, finding and providing shelter for not only his self but many would have came with families and that would have been a challenge. both genders would have had the basic challenge of finding food and water for survival. The odds against both genders for survival would have been challenging especially when you have no one or nothing in a new world ( or new place period).

Settling in New world
The worst part about settling in the New World would have been not knowing what would have been waiting on the other side. Multiple thoughts would have crossed my mind like,” Will it just be us that are traveling to this land that is unknown to all of us”, “Are there things that can kill us”, “are there people waiting on the other side to greet us or harm us”. A trip to the New world and we are being rationed out a little of food, ale, and water, let’s be honest, someone would wound up hurt. I would have fought because the president (head person in charge) was eating good and he never got sick. The food had worms in it and people were getting sick and dying. I would have tried to survive and just prayed that I was not next. I personally would have been part of the crew that attacked the president because we are all getting sick, living in filthy conditions while he is still healthy.
Modern Day Celebrity
The person that I think resembles Captain John Smith in a way because of there accomplishments, attitudes, and writing is Kanye West. Kanye West thinks highly of himself and sometimes he may suggest a good talk game toward someone but by the time he is done saying what he wants, he usually have asserted his self back in the equation. Kanye has wrote many albums, has made over millions in the rapping industry, and has started a family. Kanye West has many split personalities and it does not matter who Kanye is talking with in the public he try to make them seem little while he stands tall. Kanye West does not like to be without some type of control over a situation whether it’s pertaining to his family (immediate or not) and you see this when he is on the music awards show. Kanye just thinks highly of his self like Captain John Smith.
A God Thing
As an adult I must confess that I used to be bullied in school (up until the beginning of middle school). Well, the bully was tired of being picked on and one day decided to become the bully. My attitude went from being kind and loving to whatever. Above all things I was a loner (with a bad attitude). Instead of me bullying when necessary (like does bullying when necessary exist) I took it to another level and continuously did stupid and idiotic things up until adulthood. As I made it into the adult world my attitude got me in trouble ( I even wounded up at the jailhouse a time or two) but I never wounded up having a record (cases was thrown out). Even when I thought my life was headed for a downward spiral, my life took a turn and God sent me a hero. The way I was headed from my teenage life to adult life was one of two places: somebody jail or cemetery. My angel was sent my way to intervene in my path of destruction and I’m very grateful and thankful for that.
Impressions and knowledge about Christopher Columbus
The understanding that I had of Columbus was that he was a very nasty ( stealing, robbing, and imprisoning people) individual that you would not want to be around. However, after reading about Columbus my viewpoint has changed a little. I have learned that as a man Columbus was a descent guy. He made sure that his soldiers did not take anything from the homes that they intruded upon. A true leader with a caring heart would have only stood firm to his word, Columbus did. Columbus took enough aloe trees that he discovered and the snakeskin he kept for his highness. He did not rob the Native American people as I was taught in school. Columbus had to be a good leader because he traded hawk’s bells and glass beads for water for his crew to take on their voyage from there.
Christopher Columbus
The image of Christopher Columbus in my head was that he was a terrible person who came and took the land from the Native American people. Not only did he take the land from the Native American people, he allowed his soldiers to steal from the Native people, rape their women, imprison their children and they killed off the head leaders of the tribes ( they imprisoned the men so that they could not put up a fight). I was taught in elementary school as well that Columbus had the Native American people homes burned to the ground with their belongings that the soldiers did not take. My image of Christopher Columbus was very messed up and I truly believed it because this is what was taught to me in elementary school. School I will say shaped my attitude toward Columbus. Now that I know that Columbus did not do all those things I see him in a different way.
Similarities between Christian creation and the Iroquois creation story
The Earth’s on turtles back and the Iroquois creation story have many similarities. Both stories portray a turtle that is used to represent earth (land). Earth grows on the back of the turtle’s back and this starts the creation of earth. Each story uses the turtle to grow the earth on the shell. The stories has woman to bare the child. The Iroquois creation story the woman bearing her child descends to the deep part of the unknown darkness in which monsters gathered around her. The Earth on turtle’s back the skyland’s wife looses her footing and falls through the hole the great tree was uprooted from. The animals gather around her in the water when the two swans come down to the water from catching the woman.
Most important period in American history
The most important period in the American history to me is when Christopher Columbus discovered and colonized America. The reason why I say this is the most important period is because without Christopher Columbus then the United States would have been just another island left unnamed and unknown to mankind on the outside, and yet because of Christopher Columbus exploitation and colonization was born. Even though the native American people were already living on the continent of what we call “America” now, it still was claimed to be discovered by Columbus. The trading of certain items such as, tobacco, and edible foods started between the Americas and Europe (by being imported). Also, during this time of colonization and trade came with it the negative side as well which was the slave trade. Good things and bad things came out of the colonization and discovery of America.
About this blog
This semester in English251 class we are going to learn about American Literature. I am guessing the class is going to learn about Christopher Columbus and how he colonized the world. Who knows really unto I get into the class. Maybe the class is going to write papers on the information we receive and turn them in to get a grade. I wonder if we have to do blogs over any American Literature or is more of essays. English class should be a blast even though many people think English is more of essays than anything else. Learning about American Literature will be fun.
